Partner of the COMET program ABATEC presented new developments of the tracking system for football!
ABATEC informed within the framework of a press conference, held at the 27th of February 2008 about the further development of the LPM (Local Position Measurement) system.
The LPM system is a transponder based analyzing tool. It provides the football coach with data of the position of the player. With this data it’s possible for the coach to analyze in detail the tactical behavior and the physical condition of the player.
The Software Competence Center Hagenberg (SCCH) upgraded the LPM system with a video analysis. Now it’s possible not only to track the player, but also the ball. There are already systems on the market, which record the game using video technology. The fundamental difference to such systems is the data could be evaluated much faster. This is possible due to the used algorithm for the detection of the ball.
The LPM system for football is the result of a joint venture of ABATEC and TNO, a research institute of the Netherlands. The Italian football club AC Milan already uses such a system. The system was also presented at 50 international top football clubs as Real Madrid, Celtic Glasgow or FC Barcelona. The aim for 2008 is to sell 10 LPM systems for football.

Executive of ABATEC, Mr. DI Niederndorfer, MBA presented the mode of operation of the LPM-system.
The tracking system could not only used for football. It could be used in ethology, in industry and science. Further applications include cycling, horse races, monitoring for airports and at harbors for the logistics of container.
