Harmonizing Computers, Machines and People
Wolfgang Beer presented the Plant Safety System at the 6th International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN), in Daejon, Korea.
The IEEE INDIN is the premier conference series presenting the state of the art and future perspectives of industrial information technologies, where Industrial experts, researchers, and academics share ideas and experiences surrounding frontier technologies, breakthrough and innovative solutions, applications and process models.
The theme of INDIN 2008 was "Harmonizing Computers, Machines, and People" to recognize the importance of the human dynamics in modern automated industrial environments. Key to the success of such environments is harmonious integration of machines, information, and people.
The main topics were Cognitive and Computational Intelligence in Industrial Informatics, Distributed, Embedded and Networked Control,e-Learing for Small and Medium Enterprises., Emerging Platform Technologies in Industrial Informatics, Factory Automation, Human Computer and Machine Interface, Information Security Savety and Trust, Sensing and Communication Technologies, Service Oriented Architecture and Supply Chain Management and Logistics
Best Presentation Award fort the SCCH
Wolfgang Beer was awarded with the Best Presentation Award. Within his presentation he introduced the Plant Safety System. This safety system was developed for the voestalpine Stahl GmbH. SCCH in cooperation with the University of Applied Science in Hagenberg developed that system for the heavy industry.

In case of an emergency it is extraordinarily important for rescure personell to know exactly how many persons are whre. This requires automatic detection of each individual – with strict upholding of data privacy. Because of different hazardous areas have different requirements (outside and inside areas with shielding, stell-concrete walls, etc.), the localization construction kit consists of multiple technologies including Bluetooth, RFID, ZigBEE and GPS.
