Winner of the GEN-AU SummerSchool
Thomas Bumberger (17) from Linz, Upper Austria, won the first price at the GEN-AU SummerSchool. In August 2009 he worked in two research centers in Hagenberg, namely at the Software Competence Center Hagenberg (SCCH) and the Fuzzy Logic Laboratorium (FLLL) of the “Institut für Wissensbasierte Mathematischen Systeme” of the Johannes Kepler University (JKU).
Promoting young researcher
The GEN-AU SummerSchool enables young researcher to get in touch with different research institutions. In 2003 within the Austrian “Genomforschungsprogramm” started the SummerSchool and up to now more than 500 young pupils took advantage of this offer.

Strong interest in bioinformatics
Without bioinformatics, research in the field of biology would be hardly possible, because of the mass of data we have to handle”, mentioned Bumberger.
At the SCCH Thomas Bumberger worked together with the research team of Dr. Julian Mattes in the area of Biomedical Data Analysis. He focused on the project CANCERMOTISYS which concentrates on research against stomach cancer.
At the FLLL he worked on the network-project Ultra-sensitive Proteomics and Genomics which is coordinated by Dipl. Phys. Bettina Heise.
