Concepts, Methods and Tools for Architecture-Centric Software Development

Georg Buchgeher

The PhD project of Georg Buchgeher focuses on Concepts, Methods and Tools for Architecture-Centric Software Development. This project, which primarily concerns SCCH’s SET Area, is supervised by SCCH’s scientific partner Prof. Dr. Gustav Pomberger (Johannes Kepler University Linz). The project starts from the observation that software architecture plays a central role in software development and that the creation of architecture is one of the first activities in the design process that imposes long lasting decisions on a system. This PhD project aims at the development of an architecture-centric approach for software development that is applicable to object-oriented, component-based and service-oriented software systems. The focus is on the development of concepts, methods and tools for supporting continuous awareness, alignment and integration of architecture and source code. The basic goal of the PhD project is to present architectural elements as first-level entities to developers. Thereby the development of tools plays an important role, because a lack of tool support is one of the major drawbacks of similar existing approaches and is at least partially the reason why approaches like Architecture Description Languages (ADLs) have not yet found their way to software development projects in practice.
