Job Profile

We are looking for a Junior Data Scientist (f/m) to join the Data Analysis Systems team of the Software Competence Center Hagenberg (SCCH) to work on research-intensive machine learning and data analysis problems.

We offer the applicant to become a member of an international research team with focus on data management, data driven modeling, model predictive control, fault diagnosis, predictive analytics and process optimization. Typical examples of applications are industrial process analysis and optimization systems, e.g. for chemical industry, machine manufacturing and maintenance or environmental technology. The Data Analysis Systems team is cooperating with companies and research institutes in Austria and Europe.

Requirements

Preferably, the candidate should have the following attributes:

  • a MSc in computer science, data science, mathematics, statistics or related field of study
  • profound education and if possible experience in machine learning, data mining, or statistics and in related software tools like Python (scikit-learn, pandas, numpy, TensorFlow, …), R, Matlab, or others
  • background or interest in the field of data management systems (relational data bases, SQL, ...), big data (NoSQL data bases, analysis frameworks like Spark) and related technologies (stream processing environments) is preferable
  • practical experience with data analysis is considered as a special advantage
  • good skills in software development in a modern high level language like Phyton, R, Matlab, C++ or Java
  • ambition in research and problem solving
  • good communication skills, motivated team player
  • good knowledge of English
  • good knowledge of German is preferable

For ambitious candidates there also exists the possibility to pursue related PhD studies.

You should like to work within a familiar team atmosphere and be able to bring in your expertise and skills in industry as well scientific contexts. Your personal skills should include the ability to work independently as well as within a team, and the ability to co-operate with industrial partners.

Salary The minimum gross salary is € 2,968, 14 times a year for full-time employment. The actual salary depends on the qualification of the applicant.
