Integrated Executable Business Process and Dialog Specification
Verena Geist
Integrated Executable Business Process and Dialog Specification is the subject of the PhD project by Verena Geist. This PhD project, which primarily concerns SCCH’s DBT Area, is supervised by Prof. Dr. Josef Küng (Johannes Kepler University Linz). The vision of the PhD project is to create a virtual business engine that provides an integrated, executable specification for rapid development of enterprise applications. The applications we want to survey within the project are form-based and correspond to a request-response pattern. This means that users invoke an action on the server and get a report and form as response on which they can invoke new actions (dialog model). Therefore the basic idea is to enhance previous efforts in dialog modeling to achieve a seamless business process and dialog modeling method. Of course a wide range of tools enables creation of initial drafts of such applications. However, each tool is set up upon a specific technology and therefore causes legacy problems if the technology changes. The long-term objective of the project is to clearly understand the concepts behind existing tools and then focus on construction of the theory of those tools. The added scientific value is a formal specification that persists independently of technologies and platforms.
