As one of the largest independent research centers in Austria in the field of software, Software Competence Center Hagenberg (SCCH) plays a harbinger role for software-related technological research and development trends. Thanks to interdisciplinary R&D core competencies in software development, SCCH’s reference customers include renowned enterprises such as Keba AG, Abatec Electronic AG, Oberösterreichische Gebietskrankenkasse (Upper Austrian Health Insurance), Siemens AG, Fronius International GmbH and voestalpine Stahl GmbH.
Software Competence Center Hagenberg was founded by five departments of Johannes Kepler University Linz (Prof. Buchberger (RISC), Prof. Pomberger (Institute for Business Informatics), Prof. Klement (Institute for Knowledge-Based Mathematical Systems; Fuzzy Logic Laboratory Linz-Hagenberg), Prof. Wagner (FAW Institute for Application-Oriented Knowledge Processing) and Prof. Engl (Institute for Industrial Mathematics)) in July 1999 in the realm of the K plus competence program. Currently SCCH employs a staff of more than 60. In fiscal year 2010/2011 SCCH reached a performance of 5.7 million Euro. This excellent result reflects industry’s demand for high-quality R&D services in software.
As an essential part of Softwarepark Hagenberg, SCCH makes a significant contribution to the development of the region. SCCH vests its engagement wholly in serving as an active node in the research and technology networks in Upper Austria, Austria and internationally. The basis for the challenging work in science and industry is the highly qualified and engaged staff of SCCH.
SCCH made the race for the COMET competence center program and strengths the research site Upper Austria as a K1 center since January 2008. The approved budget for the support period 2008 to 2012 is 16.2 million Euros.
Scientific networking
With a project-based, future-oriented view, SCCH bundles and integrates national and international scientific competencies and extends its contacts to domestic and international scientists and scientific institutes. SCCH currently cooperates with more than 28 research institutes in Austria, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and USA. This scientific networking contributes sustainably to the development of the Austrian research landscape.
