Mario Pichler is a senior researcher, project manager and project developer in the research area Data Analysis Systems at the Software Competence Center Hagenberg, Austria. He obtained his PhD in Computer Science from Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria) in 2007. Beyond that, he finished his BSc-studies Geo- and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Innsbruck (Austria) in 2015 with two theses about Agent-based Modelling and Probabilistic Graphical Models in tourism research.
He has more than 15 years of experience in application-oriented research in the areas of Ubiquitous Computing, Software Engineering and Data Analysis. As a result of these research activities, he has published more than 30 scientific publications in aforementioned areas.
His current research focus is on formal knowledge representation and analysis of complex relations and emerging phenomena, with applications, e.g., in decision making and situation/risk assessment.
Recently, he acted as principal coordinator for the Austrian national research project “insightTourism - Optimization of tourism investment decisions based on valid demand analysis by integrating social media and web data”, funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) within the COIN program line (prj.no. 841065, http://www.mountainresearch.at/insight-tourism/) and also coordinated the FFG Bridge project ACEPROM (prj.no. 84128) - matching of knowledge bases in the human resources domain.
