Software Analytics and Evolution

SAE is researching methods and tools for the development and evolution of software-intensive systems that meet in-creasing demand for user-friendliness. Furthermore, SAE addresses software quality assurance by systematic testing (e.g., test automation, test case generation, compositional testing), automated analysis, and automated documentation generation, particularly addressing highly configurable software systems, e.g., product lines. Typical applications are maintenance and evolution of both legacy IT systems and software systems based on upcoming software development approaches (e.g., behaviour driven development, service-oriented architecture, micro-services and AI based tools and systems) as well as the development of software-intensive industrial applications.

VST 2018 is an unique event bringing together academics, industrial researchers, and practitioners for exchanging experiences, solutions and new ideas in applying methods, techniques and tools from software analysis, evolution and reengineering to advance the state of the art in test development and maintenance.

What you see is what you test

At ICST 2017 (International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation), which took place for its 10th anniversary this year in Tokyo, the new topic of the SCCH "Visual Testing" met with great approval. Among other contributions to this topic, the poster received the Best Poster Award.

Research Visit AIST Kansai

In Osaka

Group of AIST Kansai in Osaka, Japan, and presented SCCH’s latest research results on automated test case generation and localization testing.

At this year's Software Quality Days, Rudolf Ramler presented the research on "tool support for selective regression testing" in the scientific part of the conference. The selected publication was awarded by the jury with the “Industrial Experience Best Paper Award”.

Rudolf Ramler held a workshop regarding the topic "Random-Based Testing" on 7th of December. The event was organized and financed by the Software Craftsmanship South Tyrol and the Free University of Bolzano/Bozen.

A Graphical User Interface For A Cosy Home

Successful Cooperation with Windhager Zentralheizung

Together with central heating manufacturer Windhager from Seekirchen near Salzburg, a SAE team led by Mario Winterer implemented the graphical user interface for Windhager's new generation of solid fuel heating systems. This application allows both residents and service technicians comfortable access to heating and hot water functions.

The GUI framework Qt, where the SAE team has extensive professional expertise,  has been chosen as base technology for the application.

After months of intense development work, the team was able to release the first modules into an intensive field testing phase.

A research project delivers valuable knowledge especially for small and medium-sized IT companies.

An innovative research project is currently being conducted across province boundaries. The Institute for Computer Science of the University of Innsbruck, Software Competence Center Hagenberg GmbH (OÖ) and five companies are exploring smart testing. The goal is to improve quality in software development by targeted localization of faults and side effects.
