Abstract To fully exploit their potential, product- and reuse-focused development approaches need to closely link basic software engineering activities with strategic and economic business and product aspects. Generally, software product management is expected to provide this integration between business and product related goals and strategies and core software life cycle activities, but, however, often fails to deliver the promised results. On the other hand, software engineering best practice approaches generally lack the provision of explicit or detailed product management practices. – We present the results of extracting and consolidating key product management practices from four selected software product line engineering and product management frameworks. The obtained results are presented in form of ‘process outcomes’ in order to enable future integration and harmonization with process-oriented software life cycle best practice models like ISO/IEC 12207.
